Lead Climbing & Belay Course

This course is for advanced climbers who want to learn the basics of indoor lead climbing & belaying. In the first class, students will learn about the equipment required for lead climbing, and gear maintenance. Students also learn how to lead climb, clip, and take safe falls. The second class focuses on lead belaying, catching lead falls, and gaining practical experience in different climbing scenarios.

Participants must be age 14 or older, belay certified at Climber's Rock, and able to flash 5.10 on top rope. You must also provide your own climbing equipment. Climber's Rock does not provide any equipment for lead climbing.

Required equipment:

  • Petzl Grigri, Grigri+, or Neox belay device with a locking, climbing carabiner
  • Dynamic climbing rope, recommended to be 9.5mm - 9.8mm in diameter, total length of 60 meters or longer
  • Climbing harness and climbing shoes

Optional equipment:

  • Rope bag, rope tarp, or suitable transport container for your rope
  • Edelrid Ohm, Ohm 2, or Ohmega if taking the course with a significantly heavier partner
